Mosaic Monday: Let There Be Lighthouses

I  decided to get the lighthouses out of my system and finally post the rest of them. I do believe  the Cape Blanco lighthouse was the most interesting. I posted it on Mosiac Monday not too long ago. It is very windy in that location and we were told that the lighthouse keepers had to tether their children to keep them from blowing away. Can you imagine that? The history was interesting. They didn’t get supplies very often and sometimes they would get a surprise visit from an overseer. He had high expectations of them and they had to have the place kept in an orderly manner. When they did know he was coming for  an inspection you had to make sure the brass buttons on all jackets were polished. I am linking with Mary at Little Red House for Mosaic Monday.

This last photo was taken in Cresent City, California. It is called Battery Point. We regret that we didn’t take the time to walk to it but we were on a certain time frame and I am sure we’ll get to it at another time. Like Scarlett O’Hara said..”there’s always tomorrow.”

  1. I love lighthouses – you have taken some great shots here. There are a couple which I would love to sketch, if that’s ok with you? (If the results are not horrendous, I would post them on my blog with a link back here.) If you’re not happy to do that, just say – won’t be offended :)

    • Help yourself..Sue! Thank you..I will look forward to seeing what you come up with. We all inspire each other and that is what is so great about blogging. I still want to learn pencil sketching..

  2. Very interesting! We just love lighthouses. When we visit them, I like seeing the old glass and knowing the history. Tethering the children…that’s windy! Have a good week!

  3. Lovely collage of the lighthouses and bridges. I really like the perspective of the glass light in the first photo. Thanks for sharing the history Roberta. I always find it interesting how people used to live before. I know it can get very windy along the Oregon coast.

  4. That’s so interesting about having to tether their children…
Great shots. I’m always intrigued with light houses. Have a good week!

  5. Thank for sharing some history on lighthouses…they are fascinating. Your mosaic has great photos.

I had a remarkable dream about a lighthouse a few months back, and it had a lot of symbolism within it. It was a dream full of clarity.

    Blessings,
    Marianne
